The Role of the Ministry
Maintenance of Zoological Gardens with diverse animal collection and conducting of related educational and research programmes to the public are the functions of the Ministry.
Hon. Minister Basil Rajapaksha is a Sri Lankan politician currently the Senior Adviser to President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka on all matters pertaining to the affairs of the State and Government.
He took the lead in marking the “Mahinda Chintana” a reality launching the “Jathika Saviya – Gama Neguma” programme, also heading the Presidential task Force, he rendered an enormous service with dedication under the “Eastern Resurgence” and “Uthuru wasanthaya” programmes.
Hon. Minister Basil Basil Rajapaksha is a known and accepted by those who support the Government and the opposition as the brain behind the massive development drive of the UPFA government. But this image of him as the “Developer of the Century” has masked his unmatchable and pivotal contribution in the war against terrorism.
Hon. Minister Basil Rajapaksha is the appointed Cabinet Minister of the Economic Development. He was re elected to Parliament in April 2010, obtaining the highest number of preferential votes in the country at the 2010 general election, who is also a member of Parliament for the Gampaha District.
On minister first visit to the Dehiwala Zoo he emphasis that the National Zoological Gardens is a vital part to attract tourist and locals and to uplift the zoos recreation and infra structure facilities.
