All the individuals belongs to sub species of Elephas maximus maximus. The young animals are being fed with milk and subsequently change into supplementary food and later on foliage. The Elephant orphanage at Pinnawala has a significant importance of research activities of their behaviours and unrevealed biological aspects of elephants.
