Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is the one and only place on earth to see large number of captive elephants together at one place. All the individuals belongs to sub species of Elephas maximus maximus.
The young animals are being fed with milk and subsequently change into supplementary food and later on foliage.
The Elephant orphanage at Pinnawala has a significant importance of research activities of their behaviours and unrevealed biological aspects of elephants. Many research have been conducted by scientists around the globe.
